Human Rights, UNICEF, and a Childhood Dream
As a child I dreamt about helping others with focus on Africa. It was an unexplored and exciting territory for me. First, I wanted to adopt cheetahs in South Africa and preserve the amazing nature. As a teenager, I wanted to become a doctor or a dentist that went out of my way to help others less fortunate and with less access to these services. I envisioned myself going to Africa with big suitcases full of money and medicine and hand it out to individuals I encountered. Today, my dream of helping others in Africa is stronger and more realistic. As I studied Human Rights at University of Arizona, I was taught better ways to create lasting change. I believe the human being is capable and smart, no matter where in the world we are. I believe that individuals can solve problems in their communities and that we have entrepreneurs all around us. Unfortunately, we all don’t have the same opportunities from the beginning of our lives.
As a professional golfer, it is a goal of mine to become a UNICEF Ambassador and visit the organizations’ camps while traveling the world. It is my plan to contribute both financially and hands-on wherever I am capable of doing so. UNICEF is an organization with focus on defending children’s rights, and I believe our future belongs to the children and that we should do everything in our power to fight for the children’s rights to survival, education, and fulfilling their potential. Once my life as a professional golfer is over, my job as a human being becomes most important. I dream of helping and invest in local entrepreneurs in less fortunate parts of Africa, who wants to create improvements and solve issues in their communities. I believe locals know better what problems need to be solved than what I would, and that they oftentimes have solutions, just not the opportunity financially, technically, or possibly politically. I know I cannot solve every problem, but if I can help one village to improve their electricity or clean water supply by implementing solar cells and mentoring an entrepreneur with good intentions, then I have helped empowering that village to take some control of their future. If I can help making school affordable in a village, then maybe we can have a future of doctors, managers, entrepreneurs, physicians and chemists who has the knowledge of problem solving skills. Maybe I can help to invest in drones that deliver medicine to small villages with less access to good roads. There are endless opportunities how we can help and I believe we have the ability to make the world a better place for everyone if we work together and invest in each other.
