A Day with the Juniors at Vasatorp

Last Sunday, I got the opportunity to hang out with our juniors and team at Vasatorp for the annual “Junior-Bollen.” It is a tournament that the coaches and administration of the club is hosting with the assistance of all juniors as volunteers, and members of the club comes out to play this event. It is a fun tradition and it is usually and amazing day filled with laughter, small competitions, food on the course, and also a huge day to support junior golf in our city. This day exceeded our expectations with a full field playing a 2-man scramble at our Tournament Course. Our elite juniors were out on the course and the participants could buy their shots on various difficult holes- maybe so they could drive a green on a reachable par 4, or help out on a par 3 etc. I was participating in a “Beat-the-Pro” challenge on 17, a par 3 with a tucked in pin behind a bunker. We had partnered up with Electrolux Home who is a huge supporter of Junior Golf in the south region of Sweden, and they donated 50 kr for each person that hit it closer to the pin than I did. They also had a closest to the pin contest on that same hole and we had so much fun meeting all the members who got very excited for the tournament.

Days like these are incredibly valuable for the juniors, and I cannot remember that many pro’s helped out with these days when I grew up. If I can make those days just a little better by being there, talking to our juniors, inspiring and helping them, and showing up as a good example, then I think I’m on the path of doing something great. It is so important to me as a pro to give back to those who are the upcoming stars and help our club to be better. I had two girls, Isa and Emma, by my side on 17th who were already done with their “job” for the day, so they decided to come hang out on 17 with me and asked tons of questions during my 5 hours there. We had chipping contests, talked about the acceptance of doing mistakes, how I handle being nervous, if I get angry on the course, etc. It was so much fun and I hope they learned something from me and want to keep practicing to become the best they can possibly be one day!
