Smörum Open and Golf Vlaanderen Events

I am home after 2 weeks on the road in Europe. The first tournament was at Smörum GC, 30 minutes north west of Copenhagen. I stayed with my old college roommate and teammate Cecilie, who is now playing for Florida State. I really enjoy playing golf in Denmark, in some way it feels like home and the volunteers and everyone at the golf courses are always incredibly nice and welcoming. Smörum GC was a tricky one in my opinion… If you missed the FW and ended up in the rough you had to play the hole very different because of the roll on the ball it created. It was always flyer lies, and a wedge that I usually hit 90y could roll to 120. It was a mental battle to make these decisions and anticipate how the ball would react on the greens with different clubs, lies, and the howling wind. A true test, and an experience that I learned so much from. The scores were overall very high, and I was in 13th place before the last day. It also showed what a home course advantage it was with 3 home players taking first, second and third.

After Denmark I came home for a day and celebrated my cousin who had graduated from the dentist school. Then I took off again and drove down to Zolder, Belgium, and Millenium Golf. The course was beautiful and located on a lake with quite a bit of wind. The event was absolutely amazing with a really fun and professional pro-am, dinner, and lunches in the player’s lounge. The course was set up pretty short and I didn’t hit many drives as the further up you came, the more trouble there was. After a tough mental battle the first round, I recharged and started to play a lot better golf the second and third round and finally got another round under par. The greens were very very slow at this course and as most of you know, I do aim point, and I struggled to match up the slow speed with the lines that I took in reference to aim point. The last day I figured it out, so again, lessons learned and hopefully I can use that knowledge if I play on that slow greens again.

Now I’m going home to Sweden for some well needed rest and another tournament (only 2 days, 36+18) at my grandfather’s home course.
