Upper Montclair CC - purest golf course and greatest challenge so far on my LPGA journey
This year’s Founder Cup was at Upper Montclair CC in Clifton, NJ. It was an amazing venue with the best course and conditions I have ever played at. Other players I met said it has a major feel to it with the thick rough, tree line, and speedy greens. Not a day they rolled below 12,5 on the stimp and the undulating greens made it tricky. As I have battled with high expectations and putting tons of pressure on myself the last few weeks, my main focus for this week was to let go, stay present, and enjoy the opportunity to play a fantastic course while competing on the LPGA. It was a great challenge and even if I wish the result was better, we are going in the right direction with both the game and the mental aspects. I have to have fun to be able to perform and this was a huge step in the right direction for me. Unfortunately, with a tree-lined, narrow course, with really thick rough, there is not much to do if you miss the fairway than to chip out. The driver became a little too costly for me, but I saw huge strides with the putter and my confidence levels out there. I am also so grateful to have played in this event to celebrate the LPGA, its founders and the pioneers who took over from the founders in the pursuit of creating our tour as we know it. As I walked off the 18th hole during my 2nd round I met legends like Betsy King and Amy Alcott, as well as our fellow Swede Pia Nilsson who founded Vision54 and have written many books that I have read previously and growing up. It was such a neat experience and I think this is my favorite tournament this far on the tour. Really looking forward to coming back one day!
Now I’m off to San Francisco where I’ll play in the US Open Qualifier. Hope to secure my ticket to Pebble Beach this summer. Staying hopeful and optimistic, as well as very very patient.
